VALENTINE PARTY HEARTWARMING SUCCESS

The 8th annual Innvestments Valentine Party after a wobbly start ended up a heart-warming success. Forty-five individuals gathered together on the 6th and had a rousing good time. This was Madam President Julie's initial debut and she did an exceptional job. After another exceptional meal from the Ramada, the Valentine candy raffle was had and 5 girls took home about 10,000 extra calories. The Best Red Dress Contest took place with the waitresses acting as judges. We had a large number of girls participate in this years event. Red dresses of every style, cut, fashion, and shade paraded for everyone to view. Not only were the dresses some of the best we have seen, but the style and array of shoes was also something to behold. The grand winner of the Barbie Doll for the Best Red Dress was our own Beth B. Congratulations.

The entertainment of the evening proceeded with our own DJ, Marsha putting on a performance that will be difficult to exceed in future party's. Marsha, a musician in her own right, played her sax physically, right into the floor. The music was great and the show performed was...........Well, you had to be there to see it. This was followed by the music and crooning of Frank Sinatra brought to us by George, definitely one of the top Frank singers from the Boston area. Frank's (George's) show lasted a full hour and helped make this year's Valentine party, one of the best to date.

Valentine Party Comments....

The party that almost wasn't, turned out to be a very successful event. We had 45 individuals attend the party of which 14 were couples. This speaks volumes to the support we can bring forth when we exert the effort.

The change from the old Holiday Inn to the Ramada Inn caused us to reevaluate how we do things, especially events. We had several financial shortfalls last year and it took some creative work to have us not be deep in dept at the end of the year. We were able to do this thanks to several individuals. This year we are working from a base membership that is not as robust as last year so our planning has had to be more precise. We have always been happy if we could run an event and come out plus or minus $100.00. This year at the Christmas party we came out $6.00 in the black. The Valentine party came out, after paying all the bills, $233.00 in the red. This is O.K. as this is the reason we have a $30.00 annual membership fee. This gives us the cushion that we need to do things like this and still have pizza, get burgers from the dining room and do other things at our regular meetings. We have been at the Ramada for a year and we now have a better base line to operate from. BUT..... It takes more than just the planning to make an event work.....it takes the support of everyone to attend and bring their friends and to spread the word. Innvestments thanks Tiffany Club for its herculean effort in supporting this last minute event. They even had the event on the front page of their web site and it was talked up at each of their gatherings. Thank You!

We also learned something else from this event....That the Valentine party has become a key event. We did not feel, based on party attendance the past three years, that this years event would be that successful. We based this on coming so close to the Christmas party and Tiffany Club's First Event. We also, at the initial planning stage, i.e. right after paying the Christmas bills, did not feel that the treasury was in that good a shape. The decision was made to skip the Valentine party and put emphasis on a larger Birthday party in April. The hue and cry that came when folks realized that the Valentine party was canceled sent a really good message....i.e.....the Valentine party has become a staple community event and should not be messed with. We won't....ever again!!!

The board wants to thank everyone who supported the event and who volunteered and assisted in making the event the success that it was.

New England Update

In the December newsletter we had comments on some New England clubs that had had major changes taking place and some which had dissolved. We are please that our story of gloom was not as bad as it seemed. This one came in the e-mail and we are please to reprint it.

Just read your Dec. issue of Your Innvestment, to find the 'connecticuTView' dissolved!!! Wrong. Please write a retraction in your next newsletter. Here's the scoop, and I think that I should have forward all newsletter exchanges the same info, otherwise I can see how one can make that mistake. In June, I asked for the membership to take over all of my responsibilities as President, Treasurer, Sec'y, and chief cook and bottle washer. No one volunteered, so I suggested we change the club to be an electronic club and have our own web-site. I got a volunteer to create the web-site, and this is how we now distribute the club newsletter...electronically. in June we had 81 members, almost half of which don't have computers. We now have 60 plus members, of which we mail a paper newsletter to only 15, and an electronic newsletter to 45. Electronic memberships are $10. and snail mail newsletter memberships are still $25./year. <AHREF="http://www.transgender.org/ctv/">cTView</A> What we also have done is to join the New Haven Gay & Lesbian Community Center at 50 Fitch Street, New Haven as their T in GLBT. We now have a meeting site the 3rd Saturday of each month, that has 3 meeting rooms, one huge conversation pit with 4 couches and 5 chairs, a kitchen, 2 bathrooms for changing, a pool table, computer hooked to the Internet, 63" television, sound system and lending book library. Last month we held an Open House for the other groups who meet at the Center. We have just voted to hold our 2nd Female Impersonator Show Benefit, probably in the Spring of 2000. And we have a chairperson for that. (Not me.) I do hope this sounds better than saying "we closed". We have an Outreach Chairperson, a Meeting organizing Committee, Website Mistress as well as Big Sister and Sunshine welcoming committee. I am only the Treasurer, and off the bench quarterback, guiding the club where it needs it. In January I will be having "Fusion" of my lower back, and I feel the club is in good hands and alive. At least, its better than Joann Roberts saying she will hold the Denise Mason Memorial Big Hair Contest at the Paradise in the Pocono's. She's got me dead, while you only have us closed.

Hugs, Denise Mason

While we are glad that CTV is still running full steam ahead...albeit with some modifications, we are sad to see that Gender Talk North in New Hampshire and the Chat group in Worcester have closed down. A new group called Stepping Stones is being formed in Worcester and we wish them well and Gender Talk North is referring all individuals to a new TriEss group being formed in New Hampshire, We wish them best wishes and good luck.

J The average American woman weighs 144 lbs. and wears a size 12 to 14.
J One out of every four college aged women has an eating disorder.
J The models in the magazines are airbrushed, they're not perfect!!
J A psychological study in 1995 found that three minutes spent looking at models in a fashion magazine caused 70% of women to feel depressed, guilty, and shameful.
J Models twenty years ago weighed 8% less than the average woman, today they weigh 23% less.

"Beauty of a Woman"

The beauty of a woman
Is not in the clothes she wears,
Or the way she combs her hair.
The beauty of a woman
Must be seen from in her eyes,
Because that is the doorway to her heart,
The place where love resides.
The beauty of a woman
Is not in a facial mole,
But true beauty in a woman
Is reflected in her It soul.
It is the caring that she lovingly gives,
The passion that she shows,
And the beauty of a woman
With passing years-only grows!

Type C, Type SA, Type P, Type B or Coconuts

A man walked into the ladies department of a Macy's and shyly walked up to the woman behind the counter and said, "I'd like to buy a bra for my wife."

"What type of bra?" asked the clerk.

"Type?" inquires the man. "Is there more than one type?"

"Look around," said the saleslady, as she showed a sea of bras in every shape, size, color and material. "Actually, even with all of this variety, there are really only four types of bras," replied the sales clerk.

Confused, the man asked what were the types.

The saleslady replied: "The Catholic type, the Salvation Army type, the Presbyterian type, and the Baptist type. Which one do you need?"

Still confused the man asked, "What is the difference between them?"

The lady responded, "It's really quite simple. The Catholic type supports the masses. the Salvation Army type lifts up the fallen, the Presbyterian type keeps them staunch and upright, and the Baptist types makes mountains out of mole hills."

J Eddy Izzard, the well know British transvestite comedian is playing in Boston thru the 7th of March at the 57 Theater which is in the 57 Hotel (across the street from Jacques) in Park Square. You may have seen him on the television. He generally puts on a very good show.

J How about some of our members providing some stories for the newsletter. We can use all you can write. How about your most electrifying time? OR How about your most embarrassing time? Or your first time?

Miss Understanding

An Anagram, as you all know, is a word or phrase made by transposing or re-arranging the letters of another word or phrase. The following are exceptionally clever. Someone out there either has way too much time to waste or is deadly at Scrabble. When you rearrange the letters:

Dormitory .............................. Dirty Room
Evangelist ............................ Evil's Agent
Desperation ................... A Rope Ends It
The Morse Code ........ Here Come Dots
Slot Machines ............. Cash Lost in 'em
Animosity .............................. Is No Amity
Mother-in-law ....................Woman Hitler
Snooze Alarms ......... Alas! No More Z's
Alec Guinness ................ Genuine Class
Semolina ................................ Is No Meal
The Public Art Galleries .... Large Picture Halls, I Bet
A Decimal Point ........ I'm a Dot in Place
The Earthquakes ...... That Queer Shake
Eleven plus two .............Twelve plus one
Contradiction .................. Accord not in it

And for the grand finale: PRESIDENT CLINTON OF THE USA
It can be rearranged (with no letters left over, and using each letter
only once) into : TO COPULATE HE FINDS INTERNS

J Who is this person? This person was a cult personality.
